The Role
To provide both ongoing continuity of support for a number of MS Access databases and to support preparations to migrate data and functionality to alternative systems. To strengthen Greenbank’s operational resilience and to develop a foundation of data/systems mapping and documentation to accelerate the identification and delivery of a strategic replacement to Microsoft Access.
Outcomes of the Role
MS Access technical lead
- Day-to-day technical support lead for Greenbank’s Access databases which underpin the ESG research process and client ethical preference data
- Ongoing development lead for change requests (e.g. new database fields, reports, screening processes etc.) to meet regulatory, internal or client driven change
Data strategy analyst
- Drafting current state data mapping and documentation
- Internal collaboration with Rathbones data strategy and senior change leads on identifying potential strategic replacements to Microsoft Access
- Greenbank technical lead at formal committee / decision making reviews
- Review of the wider data model and systems across Greenbank to identify of any potential synergies / opportunities to deliver a more integrated data model across the research and investment process. Thinking beyond just a like-for-like replacement of the platform/system and promoting opportunities for a more integrated data architecture
Knowledge & Experience
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Access, both in BAU maintenance and development; experience working with Access forms, reports, queries, etc. in addition to proficiency in VBA
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to convey technical subject matter to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, triage and prioritise requirements from multiple stakeholders
- Ability to confidently communicate to a range of stakeholders
- Knowledge of common data documentation approaches
- Knowledge of modern front and back-end data solutions (e.g. Snowflake, Alteryx, Microsoft Power Platform)
- Significant experience of MS Access within a financial services environment (essential)
- Significant experience of data strategy projects/programmes and knowledge of industry approaches and best practices within financial services (essential)
