The Role
In support of the Data Protection Officer, embed and manage the data protection framework across Rathbone Group entities to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. To provide data protection advice and guidance, in support of the Data Protection Officer, for the effective management of data protection risks.
Outcomes of the Role
- Provide day to day support to the Data Protection Officer to fulfil their role, building and embedding data protection culture through the provision of appropriate advice and training.
- Managing complex data protection queries, in conjunction with the DPO, informing and advising the business about its obligations to comply with data protection law.
- Conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments as required by the Data Protection Officer.
- Coordinate and respond to data subject rights requests and ensure they are dealt with in compliance with data protection regulation.
- Assess and manage data protection incidents, breaches and near misses, tracking remediation actions to closure and providing advice and recommendations to prevent future incidents.
- Undertake periodic reviews of Records of Processing Activities to ensure they remain accurate.
- Support and respond to Data Protection complaints, identifying root cause and lessons learned.
- Contribute to the delivery of change and supplier management processes, providing practical data protection advice and recommendations to mitigate data protection risks.
- Contribute to the development of appropriate policies and processes within the data protection framework to ensure personal data is handled in accordance the relevant data protection legislation.
- Produce and support development of management information on data protection matters, including trend identification and data analysis to inform data protection risk management.
- Conduct periodic data protection monitoring reviews with the business and issue reports.
- Contribute to the on-going maintenance and review of the Data Protection risk assessment in accordance with the ICO accountability framework.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- An industry recognised qualification in Data Protection
- Significant experience in a data protection role, preferably in UK regulated financial services
- Able to remain and demonstrate independence when carrying out the role.
- Good knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, EU GDPR and PECR.
- Practical experience of working in a data protection function, specifically handling data subject rights requests and breaches, and the development and implementation of policies and processes as part of the data protection risk framework.
- The ability to digest and summarise data protection related information, providing practical guidance to the business.
- Confident communicator, an ability to discuss data protection risks and issues with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong O365 skills and understanding of risk software.
- Maintains knowledge and drive to continue professional and personal development.
