About the Role

Lead and line-manage the Application Management for the largest Functional Squad team, Investment and Operations Application Management. Ensures the function is aligned with the organisation’s business operations and strategy in delivering Business Application Services. ​

 

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Strategic planning and operational management of Investment and Operations application services.
  • Supplier relationship and commercial management.
    Governance, controls, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the delivery of change, service transition and application lifecycle management.
  • Leadership, capability development and performance management of teams.
    Financial management, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leads, motivates and manages the Investment and Operations Application Management Team, ensuring a culture of high performance.
  • Responsible for ensuring the implementation of Investment and Operations Application Services is in line with the overall Technology Strategy, Architecture and Design standards and principles to support the business
  • Ensure you are seen as the key business “go to” person, along with your managers, for your suite of applications, and in partnership with the Director of Investment and Operations, ensure business engagement takes place.
  • Responsible for working closely with outsourced services where required, to ensure overall system stability, performance and management.
  • Operation of systems in alignment with company and IT policies
  • Provide guidance, oversight and/or strategic consultancy on key IT initiatives 
  • Ensure support for the firm's problem management framework and that problems are proactively identified and resolved, reducing overall issues within IT.
  • Provide support through the use of a CoE to ensure a standardised approach to application management across all functional squads.
  • Governance and Control
  • Ensure appropriate IT Governance controls are in place to secure client data, in line with security and regulatory requirements, during the delivery of Application Services.
  • Ensuring all environments within Investment and Operations are patched to the appropriate level, aligned with agreed operating rhythms. 
  • Management of associated suppliers and lead commercial negotiations, ensuring appropriate service agreements and contracts are in place, and annual service and contract reviews are undertaken.
  • Control the team's operational costs, including preparing, submitting, and monitoring operational budgets that meet departmental objectives and constraints.
  • Communicate and collaborate to influence senior stakeholders effectively.
  • Define, implement and manage Business Application Delivery operational controls, management and reporting (i.e. supplier controls, financial management, risk management, etc.)
  •  Change Management
  • Support the delivery of Change, ensuring the IT deliverables are in line with the IT and Business strategy direction. 
  • Support the delivery of approved IT Change projects, ensuring appropriate resources are assigned, and that project and change governance is adhered to. Including supporting the change processes/CAB.
  • Ensure the delivery of small change across your application suite, working in partnership with the local business delivery teams.
  • Provide Sponsorship and leadership at CAB/Programme Boards as required and appropriate for IT Technical Change within Investment and Operations.
  • Ensure sponsorship and support for agile delivery and product teams across Rathbones.
  • Accountable for ensuring Service Transition is maintained across Investment and Operations, working within the expected standards and documentation to ensure the handover of technology services into IT BAU from IT Change.
  • Technology Strategy & Reporting
  • Support the Director of Investment and Operations with regular reporting to the relevant committees on areas of accountability, including MI, highlighting concerns to colleagues and advising them of critical issues.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of IT by establishing and participating in projects, committees, and other activities as required from time to time.
  • Leadership
  • Build and lead teams, monitoring and appraising their actions and performance, and ensuring their development and training needs are met. 
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the continuing professional development of direct reports. Develop direct reports with a view to succession and contingency.
  • Build and maintain an effective communications and engagement plan.

  • Risk Management
  • Working with the Technology team and 2LOD Operational Risk, ensure that a consistent framework is in place to systemically identify, measure, mitigate, monitor & manage risks.
  • Embed a strong risk culture, where managing risk is simply part of how we work.
  • Ensure adherence to the risk management policy and procedures, including expected standards of internal control.
  • Delegation
  • Responsible for taking all reasonable steps to apportion responsibilities clearly to direct reports, & ensure that all delegates have the required competence, knowledge, skills & time to discharge their responsibilities.
  • Lead, motivate & manage direct reports, support a no-blame culture & high-quality performance, & ensure that suitable resources are utilised to perform assigned activities.
  • Professional Development
  • Take responsibility for ensuring personal continuing professional development.
  • Ensuring that the development & training needs of direct reports are monitored, appraised & met. Develop direct reports with a view to contingency & succession.

  • Support to the function budgetary process, headcount planning, & expenditure tracking for the relevant area of responsibilities.
  • Contribute towards the continuing development of Technology, as well as the wider Group by establishing and participating in projects, committees and other activities as required from time to time, as directed by the Director of Investment and Operations and/or Group CTO.
  • Any other duties as required.

  • Proven experience working in IT Service Management roles at a senior level with responsibility for the delivery of IT Services
