Role Title: Junior Personal Tax Assistant Apprentice

Division: Trust

Location: Liverpool

Contract: 24 month fixed term contract

 

About the role

Kick‑start your career as a Junior Personal Tax Assistant Apprentice at Rathbones, joining our Personal Tax Team. You’ll support individuals with their personal tax compliance while gaining valuable exposure to personal tax advisory work, helping clients stay compliant and pay the right amount of tax, on time.

As you learn on the job, you’ll work towards your Level 4 ATT tax qualification, building practical experience, professional confidence strong connections from day one.

 

 What you’ll be doing

  • Learn how personal tax works by helping to prepare and submit tax returns.
  • Gain exposure to personal tax advisory work and help to build client relationships.
  • Support managers to meet deadlines and deliver a great service to clients.
  • Assist managers with work in progress management, billing and risk management.
  • Study towards your Level 4 ATT tax qualification while gaining hands‑on experience. 
  • Be part of a supportive team, helping clients to understand personal tax and stay compliant.

We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in building a career in personal tax, who is keen to learn and develop. You don’t need prior experience — we’ll support your learning every step of the way.

  • A confident communicator, both written and verbal, who can explain ideas clearly.
  • Positive, resilient, and open to learning from feedback with a growth mindset.
  • Curious and eager to build new skills and knowledge.
  • Enjoys working with detail but also interested in understanding the bigger picture.
  • A team player with good people skills who enjoys working collaboratively.
  • Comfortable using IT and learning new systems.
  • Committed to studying towards professional qualifications as part of the apprenticeship.
  • Aligned with Rathbones’ values.
  • Willing to learn about and follow regulatory requirements relevant to the role.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • A genuine commitment to ongoing study as part of the apprenticeship.
