The Role

 

To work as part of a curious and collaborative research team to develop, share and debate investment ideas and best practice in order to deliver excellent technical expertise to the wider business.

 

Outcomes of the Role

 

  • Internal recommended list of collectives is of a size that allows investment managers to make appropriate allocations for clients
  • Coverage of recommended and widely held collective investments is current, with written and verbal outputs delivered in a timely manner. 
  • Investment managers receive important updates on recommended and widely held funds via Tuesday meeting, cloud and business channel meetings, and any ad hoc queries.
  • Investment committees and business channels are informed on important updates on funds held within model portfolios or are briefed on Research's higher conviction ideas that might facilitate changes.
  • Sector and thematic research is delivered to the benefit of investment managers that assists with investment decisions for client portfolios.
  • Contribute to the development and management of segregated mandates by identifying suitable fund opportunities, conducting due diligence, and presenting recommendations to the relevant Investment Committee for consideration
  • Promote Rathbones to an external audience via media channels e.g., written articles, television appearances.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to Rathbones' clients and prospective clients when participating in engagements with investment managers.
  • Collectives analysts are mentored and provided guidance when needed.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Broad or growing knowledge of investment universe including onshore and offshore, legal structures, ETFs, absolute return and derivatives-based strategies.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio construction principles, including how different funds interact within a portfolio to achieve specific risk return objectives and strategic asset allocation goals.
  • Ability to analyse facts and arguments critically to produce credible recommendations
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to be persuasive. Media or communications experience would be an advantage

  • A self-starter who is able to take initiative and operate successfully on an independent basis.
  • Committed team player
  • CFA qualified / currently pursuing the CFA charter / willingness to sit exams 
  • Demonstrable experience in fund research and multi-asset portfolio management and construction
  • Experience in fund selection, fixed income and equity research strategy would also be advantageous
